From Trash to Safety: Shepherd Pups

A disaster narrowly avoided—yet in many parts of the world, stories like this remain untold. The only difference this time was timing: these tiny souls were discarded in a plastic garbage bag, right under our watch and by our beloved doggie lagoon.

Thankfully, our dedicated volunteer Catherine was out on her second morning walk and discovered them just in time, as the sun was rapidly heating the air trapped inside the bag.

We managed to track down their mother and freed her from the cruel cycle of neglect—still chained, and with one final pup that had been left behind. They’re just about two months old.

Pyrgos Pups

One of the most heartwarming outcomes of the Santorini seismic swarm period was the incredible number of dog adoptions. But sadly, the aftermath of the island’s partial evacuation continues to bring an ongoing wave of new arrivals—mostly abandoned litters of puppies.

One of the latest? A litter of six, left on the mountain of Pyrgos: sweet baby Ruth and her five little brothers…

Tiny Pointers

Literally the tiniest English Pointers we have ever encountered close to the age of 6 months old !An unknown recipe of mother nature combining small size genes and sadly the earthquake period of starvation that they fortunately survived in the streets thanks to their devoted mother. Meet Apollo (tricolore), brother Adonis (black and white), sisters Artemis ( black and white) and the benjamin of the litter Athina ( tan and white). A very big thank to the volunteers Lara and Maria who discovered them at the brink of starvation and kept them alive till they could be caught and brought in the safety of the shelter. Mamma who is also a tiny mix Pointer is still in Oia, unfortunately very wary of humans, hopefully soon she will be reunited with her babes. Pups will be up for adoption in the following days.
